Steel tubing for solar racking and trackers.

Major Metals manufactures ERW steel tubing for solar ground-mount racking, single-axis trackers, ground screws, and canopy structures — galvanized up to G235, UV coated, punch-cut, and delivered in high-volume mill runs from Mansfield, Ohio.

What We Run for Solar

Built for the weather, punched for the hardware.

Solar structures live outdoors for decades, so the tube that frames them carries heavy galvanized coatings and UV protection from day one. We run round tube in the 2″–3″ OD range and square profiles for racking, tracker, and foundation applications — slit, formed, coated, cut, and bundled in one integrated plant.

Typical Products
Round 2″–3″ OD · Square profiles
Coatings
G90 – G235 · HRPO · UV coated
End Conditions
Punch cut · Dedimpled · Flash controlled
Straightness
0.030″ / 36″

Applications we supply: fixed-tilt and canopy racking rails, single-axis tracker tube, solar ground screws (heavier-wall hot-rolled rounds with minimum-yield requirements such as 50 KSI by agreement), and community-solar structures. Specs: ASTM A513 mechanical tube in galvanized and HRPO, with ASTM A1076 available when the drawing requires certified structural galvanized tubing.

FAQ

Solar tubing, answered.

What steel tubing is used for solar racking?

Solar racking and tracker manufacturers typically run galvanized or HRPO ERW tube — round sizes in the 2″–3″ OD range and square profiles — with UV-resistant coating for outdoor exposure. Major Metals produces these to ASTM A513, with ASTM A1076 available when a certified structural galvanized spec is required.

What coatings do you offer for ground-mount solar applications?

Precoated galvanized from G90 up to G235 — a heavy zinc coating weight suited to ground-contact and long-exposure corrosion requirements — plus HRPO for parts that are hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, and UV coating for added outdoor protection.

Can you supply tube for solar ground screws and foundations?

Yes. We produce heavier-wall round tube (for example 9 ga at 3″ OD) in hot-rolled grades with minimum-yield requirements such as 50 KSI supported by agreement — the product used in ground-screw and foundation applications.

What end conditions and processing do solar customers typically specify?

Punch-cut ends, dedimpling on both ends, controlled flash, and straightness held to 0.030″ over 36″. Bundled packaging (such as 37-piece hex bundles) is available to match production-line handling.

Can you support high-volume solar programs?

Yes — solar racking tube runs in dedicated high-volume mill campaigns at our 228,000 sq ft Mansfield, Ohio plant, with five ERW mills and in-house coil slitting feeding them. Minimum order is a truckload, roughly 45,000 lb.
