Tube that people's lives lean on.

Round ERW tubing for guardrail and fall-protection systems — 1.66″ and 1.625″ OD in formable HSLA and low-carbon grades, galvanized to G90, plug-gage ID control, punch-cut and dedimpled — ready to be bent, punched, and welded into rail, from Mansfield, Ohio.

What We Run for Guardrail

Built to be bent, punched, and welded.

Guardrail tube isn't done when it leaves the mill — the fabricator bends it into rails, punches it for pins, and welds it into systems that have to hold when someone hits them. So the spec is about what happens next: formable grades that take the bend without cracking, plug-gaged IDs so hardware fits, and clean dedimpled ends. That's exactly how our safety-rail customers spec it, and it's held run after run.

FAQ

Guardrail tubing, answered.

What steel tubing is used for guardrail and fall-protection systems?

Round ERW tube in the rail industry's standard sizes — 1.66″ OD (the classic guardrail size) and its 1.625″ companion, plus 2″ OD posts — in 14–16 ga. The guardrail work on our spec sheets runs galvanized G60–G90, HRPO, and cold rolled to ASTM A513, ready for the fabricator to bend, punch, and weld into rail systems.

Can the tube be bent and punched without cracking?

Yes — that's the point of the spec. Guardrail tube runs in formable grades, including HSLA Grade 50 formable for strength-critical rail, so it takes the bend, the punch, and the weld that rail fabrication demands.

Can you control the ID for pin and fitting fit-up?

Yes — guardrail tube runs with plug-gage ID control where the spec calls for it, plus punch-cut, dedimpled, clean ends, so pins, inserts, and telescoping members fit without rework.

What finishes are available for outdoor safety rail?

Galvanized G60 through G90 precoated, HRPO or cold rolled for parts that get powder-coated after fabrication, and UV coating for added outdoor protection. Straightness held to .030″ over 36″ with testing twice per coil.

What is your minimum order for guardrail tubing?

A truckload — roughly 45,000 lb. Send your OD, gage, material, end condition, and quantity with your RFQ and we'll confirm, along with current lead time.
